| An ecological research station at an altitude of 12.200 feet

In Misa Rumi (Province Jujuy), a village of the Argentine Puna at an altitude of 12.000 feet, an ecological research station was built be the principles of the "Freiburger Ökozentrum". The inauguration took place in August 1997. Today it is the registered office of the EcoAndina foundation as well as a centre for ecological research and advanced training.
It offers research facilities and possibilities for advanced training of:
application, adaptation and improvement of different solar equipments
• to improve the efficiency of solar equipments to the climate with the goal,
• to the application of natural materials in the construction (Speis, Tuffstein, flagstones, clay-fritter, nature-roofs etc.)
• to the observation and improvement of drinking water-purification done by natural filtration processes
• at the pilot purification system in Misa Rumi to the application and suitability of reed-planting (long-time-observation of flora and fauna, application of different plants,
• to the utilization of droplet-irrigation in the traditional cultivation in the area of the upper Puna (pilot-projects in San Juan, Ciénaga, Paicone - Dpto. Sta. Catalina, Prov. Jujuy)
The center offers place for smaller groups of visitors and workstations for national and international researchers
For the construction of the house, only local materials of the immediate vicinity were used. Electricity is generated by solar energy and wind power. The centre is equipped with hot water, solar cookers and a solar powered oven.
